In this GCI Alumni Interview Series, we feature past participants of the Global Consumer Intelligence program and share their experiences, learning journeys, and career growth after joining GCI.
This article features Eslam Elafify, a software engineer and Learning Operations Associate Manager at Udacity, part of Accenture from Egypt. Through this interview, Eslam shares what motivated him to join GCI, the skills and knowledge gained through the program, and how the experience has contributed to Eslam’s academic and professional journey.
Q1: Please introduce yourself

I am an Egyptian software engineer and Learning Operations Associate Manager at Udacity, part of Accenture. I am pursuing graduate studies in Software Engineering at Cairo University, as well as a Master of Science in Management at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), with a strong interest in AI and its real-world applications.

أنا مهندس برمجيات مصري وأعمل كمدير مساعد لعمليات التعلم في Udacity، ضمن Accenture. كما أتابع دراساتي العليا في هندسة البرمجيات بجامعة القاهرة، إلى جانب دراسة ماجستير العلوم في الإدارة بجامعة إلينوي في أوربانا-شامبين (UIUC)، مع اهتمام قوي بالذكاء الاصطناعي وتطبيقاته العملية.
Q2: What motivated you to join GCI?

I joined GCI to bridge my technical background in software and AI with business strategy and consumer insights, and to learn how technology can be transformed into solutions with real-world impact.

انضممت إلى GCI بهدف الربط بين خلفيتي التقنية في البرمجيات والذكاء الاصطناعي وبين استراتيجية الأعمال وفهم المستهلك، وتعلم كيفية تحويل التكنولوجيا إلى حلول ذات تأثير واقعي.
Q3: What skills, knowledge, or experiences did you gain through GCI?

GCI strengthened my skills in business strategy, consumer analysis, AI-driven problem solving, and presenting business ideas. I also gained valuable experience collaborating with people from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.

ساعدني GCI على تطوير مهاراتي في استراتيجية الأعمال، وتحليل المستهلك، وحل المشكلات باستخدام الذكاء الاصطناعي، وعرض الأفكار التجارية، إلى جانب التعاون مع أشخاص من خلفيات مهنية وثقافية متنوعة.
Q4: How has GCI helped you in your academic or professional journey?

GCI helped me connect my technical and research experience with business thinking. It gave me a stronger framework for evaluating problems not only technically, but also in terms of users, market needs, feasibility, and impact.

ساعدني GCI على الربط بين خبرتي التقنية والبحثية والتفكير التجاري، وأصبح لدي إطار أقوى لتقييم المشكلات ليس فقط من الناحية التقنية، ولكن أيضًا من حيث المستخدمين واحتياجات السوق وإمكانية التنفيذ والتأثير.
Q5: What was the most memorable part of your GCI experience?
(In English)
The Japan Study Tour was the most memorable experience. Being selected among the top 18 students from more than 25,000 GCI learners and winning the 2nd place prize in the final phase was especially meaningful. I also valued visiting Japanese companies and research organizations and exchanging ideas with researchers and professionals.

كانت الجولة الدراسية في اليابان أكثر أجزاء التجربة تميزًا بالنسبة لي. كان اختياري ضمن أفضل 18 طالبًا من بين أكثر من 25 ألف متعلم في GCI، ثم الفوز بالمركز الثاني في المرحلة النهائية، تجربة مميزة للغاية. كما استفدت كثيرًا من زيارة الشركات والمؤسسات البحثية اليابانية وتبادل الأفكار مع الباحثين والمتخصصين.
Q6: What would you say to someone considering applying to GCI?

I would strongly encourage them to apply. GCI goes beyond learning concepts—it challenges you to connect technology, business, and real-world problems while learning alongside a truly international community.

أنصح بشدة بالتقديم إلى GCI. فالبرنامج يتجاوز مجرد تعلم المفاهيم، ويحفزك على الربط بين التكنولوجيا والأعمال والمشكلات الواقعية، مع فرصة للتعلم والتعاون داخل مجتمع دولي متنوع.
