  • Announcement: Launch of Applications for the “Nippon Foundation HUMAI Program”

The Matsuo & Iwasawa Laboratory at the Department of Technology Management for Innovation, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo (hereafter referred to as “Matsuo Lab”), in collaboration with ZEN University, is pleased to announce the launch of the “Nippon Foundation HUMAI Program,” which aims to integrate AI with the humanities and social sciences.

This program is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of researchers who will apply AI technologies in the humanities and social science fields—an initiative that resonates deeply with the philosophy of Matsuo Lab. We are excited to announce that applications for the first cohort of the program are now open.

The HUMAI Program is a pioneering initiative to cultivate human resources who can bridge AI technologies and the humanities/social sciences. It supports the collaborative learning of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers across disciplines. Participants interested in the intersection of AI and the humanities/social sciences will receive comprehensive support for their academic and research activities.

Each participant will be eligible to receive a scholarship of up to 2.5 million yen (approx. $16,000 USD) from The Nippon Foundation. This funding is intended to promote the effective use of AI, encourage interdisciplinary exchange, and support advanced research at the intersection of AI and the humanities.
