The Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo has released a Japanese translation of the “Preliminary Report of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI,” published in July 2026 by the United Nations Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence.
Professor Yutaka Matsuo was appointed as a member of the Panel in February 2026 and has contributed to the preparation of the report.

The Preliminary Report provides a broad overview of the opportunities and risks associated with AI today. It covers a wide range of topics, including advances and future trajectories in AI; applications in science, healthcare, education, and agriculture; economic impacts; security and environmental implications; human rights, information, and democracy; individual autonomy and child safety; and AI governance and reliability.
To make the report more widely accessible to readers in Japan, the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory has prepared a Japanese translation under its supervision.
