Interview with GCI Alumni: May from Thailand
In this GCI Alumni Interview Series, we feature past participants of the Global Consumer Intelligence (GCI) program and share their experiences, learning journeys, and career growth after joining GCI.
This article features Rachata Kithatthaporn, a Software Engineer from Thailand. Through this interview, May shares what motivated her to join GCI, the skills and knowledge gained through the program, and how the experience has contributed to May’s academic and professional journey.
Q1: Please introduce yourself

Hi, I’m May from Thailand. I joined the GCI program while pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). I have since graduated and am now working as a Software Engineer. I’m passionate about software development, data science, and entrepreneurship.

สวัสดีค่ะ เมจากประเทศไทยค่ะ เมสมัครเข้าร่วมโครงการ GCI ตั้งแต่ช่วงชั้นปีที่ 4 ของมหาวิทยาลัยค่ะ ปัจจุบันสำเร็จการศึกษาจากคณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์สาขาคอมพิวเตอร์ จากสจล.เรียบร้อยแล้ว และกำลังทำงานเป็น Software Engineer อยู่ค่ะ
Q2: What motivated you to join GCI?
(In English)
I joined the GCI program because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of data science. I also believed it would give me new perspectives on how data science is applied in real-world business. What I found especially unique about the program was its curriculum, which not only focused on technical data science skills but also emphasized entrepreneurship. I really appreciated this combination because it helped me develop both my technical expertise and my business mindset.

เข้าร่วมโครงการ GCI เพราะอยากเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับด้าน Data science ให้ลึกขึ้นค่ะ แล้วก็เชื่อว่าจะได้มุมมองใหม่ๆที่ถูกใช้ในโลกธุรกิจจริงมากขึ้น ในโครงการมีการวางแผนหลักสูตรที่ค่อนข้างเป็นเอกลักษณ์ค่ะ คือจะโฟกัสทั้งเทคนิคด้าน Data science และขณะเดียวกันก็ส่งเสริมทักษะ Entrepreneurship ไปด้วยค่ะ
Q3: What skills, knowledge, or experiences did you gain through GCI?

Through the program, I had the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills. On the technical side, I gained a solid understanding of the end-to-end data science workflow, including data collection and preprocessing, model development and optimization, performance evaluation, and applying data-driven technologies to solve real business problems. Beyond the technical aspects, the program also strengthened my entrepreneurial mindset. Through developing a business proposal, I learned how to identify business opportunities, validate ideas, and translate technical solutions into practical business value.

ตลอดหลักสูตร เมมีโอกาสได้พัฒนาทักษะที่หลากหลาย ทั้งด้านเทคนิคและด้านธุรกิจค่ะ ในด้านเทคนิค เมได้เรียนรู้กระบวนการทำงานด้านวิทยาการข้อมูลแบบครบวงจร ตั้งแต่การรวบรวมและเตรียมข้อมูล (Data Collection and Preprocessing) การพัฒนาและปรับแต่งโมเดล (Model Development and Optimization) การประเมินประสิทธิภาพของโมเดล (Performance Evaluation) ไปจนถึงการประยุกต์ใช้เทคโนโลยีด้านข้อมูลเพื่อแก้ปัญหาและสร้างคุณค่าให้กับธุรกิจค่ะนอกจากความรู้ด้านเทคนิคแล้ว โครงการยังช่วยเสริมสร้างแนวคิดด้านการเป็นผู้ประกอบการให้กับเมด้วยค่ะ ผ่านการจัดทำ Business Proposal เมได้เรียนรู้วิธีการค้นหาโอกาสทางธุรกิจ การพัฒนาและตรวจสอบความเป็นไปได้ของไอเดีย รวมถึงการเชื่อมโยงเทคโนโลยีเข้ากับการสร้างคุณค่าให้กับธุรกิจในโลกจริงค่ะเมรู้สึกว่าหลักสูตรนี้ช่วยให้เมเติบโตขึ้นทั้งในด้านทักษะทางเทคนิคและมุมมองทางธุรกิจ ซึ่งเป็นประโยชน์อย่างมากต่อการทำงานของเมในปัจจุบันค่ะ
Q4: How has GCI helped you in your academic or professional journey?

For me, GCI broadened my perspective on the business world and showed me how data that we often overlook can be transformed into valuable business insights. This was something I couldn’t fully learn from classroom theory alone. Throughout the program, I had the opportunity to learn from entrepreneurs and industry experts, as well as explore real-world business case studies.

สำหรับเม GCI เป็นโครงการที่ช่วยเปิดมุมมองให้เห็นโลกธุรกิจมากขึ้นค่ะ และทำให้เมเห็นว่าข้อมูลรอบตัวที่เราอาจมองข้าม สามารถนำมาต่อยอดเพื่อสร้างคุณค่าให้กับธุรกิจได้จริง ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่การเรียนในห้องเรียนเพียงอย่างเดียวยังให้ไม่ได้ค่ะ ตลอดโครงการ เมมีโอกาสได้เรียนรู้จากผู้ประกอบการและผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่มีประสบการณ์จริง รวมถึงได้ศึกษากรณีศึกษาทางธุรกิจที่น่าสนใจ ทำให้เห็นการประยุกต์ใช้ Data Science ในโลกการทำงานจริงมากขึ้นค่ะ
Q5: What was the most memorable part of your GCI experience?
(In English)
The most memorable part of the program was the onsite session in Tokyo. We had the opportunity to attend lectures, interact with business leaders, and develop a business idea based on a real-world problem within a limited time. It was both challenging and exciting. Throughout the process, we received valuable feedback from mentors and judges, making it a truly unique learning experience that I don’t think I could have found anywhere else.

ช่วงเวลาที่เมประทับใจที่สุดคือกิจกรรมออนไซต์ที่กรุงโตเกียวค่ะ เมมีโอกาสได้เข้าฟังเลกเชอร์ พูดคุยกับผู้ประกอบการ และร่วมพัฒนา Business Idea จากโจทย์ปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นจริงภายในเวลาที่จำกัดค่ะ ทำให้รู้สึกทั้งท้าทายและสนุกมาก เพราะตลอดกระบวนการ เมได้รับคำแนะนำและข้อเสนอแนะจาก Mentor และคณะกรรมการอย่างใกล้ชิด ถือเป็นประสบการณ์ที่มีคุณค่ามาก และเป็นโอกาสที่หาได้ยากจริง ๆ ค่ะ
Q6: What would you say to someone considering applying to GCI?

If you’re still deciding whether to apply for the GCI program, I’d definitely encourage you to go for it. I’m confident that you’ll gain valuable knowledge, broaden your perspective, and discover many new opportunities along the way. It was a truly rewarding experience for me, and I believe it can be for you too.
