From August 24 to 28, 2026, 17 outstanding students from GCI World 2026 April participated in a study visit to Japan.
The students were selected for their outstanding performance from among more than 25,000 participants in GCI World 2026 April, which was held from April to July 2026. The participants came from 12 countries: the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Benin, Mauritius, Tunisia, Colombia, and Uruguay.
The study visit aimed to provide participants with opportunities to learn how AI is being applied in Japanese society through interactions with universities, research institutions, companies, and government representatives in Japan.
During their stay, the students participated in a variety of activities, including a visit to robotics research facilities at the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, a research paper reading session with laboratory members, visits to Japanese companies, and networking opportunities with Japanese government representatives.

On the final day of the program, participants delivered final presentations on the theme of how they could apply what they had learned during the visit to help address challenges in their home countries. Each student presented ideas and initiatives they hope to pursue in the future, connecting AI with social challenges in their respective countries and their own areas of expertise.

The Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory offers GCI (Global Consumer Intelligence), a program designed to provide learners around the world with a systematic foundation in data science.
Why not take your first step toward learning through GCI, connecting with people around the world, and shaping the future with your own hands?
We look forward to receiving your applications!
