In this GCI Alumni Interview Series, we feature past participants of the Global Consumer Intelligence program and share their experiences, learning journeys, and career growth after joining GCI.
This article features Sakib Raihan, a Computer Science and Engineering student at BRAC University and an AI Engineer Trainee at Chowa Giken Corporation from Bangladesh. Through this interview, Sakib shares what motivated him to join GCI, the skills and knowledge gained through the program, and how the experience has contributed to Sakib’s academic and professional journey.
Q1: Please introduce yourself

I am a Bangladeshi undergraduate student pursuing a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering at BRAC University in Dhaka. My primary interests are Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Generative AI. I am currently working as an AI Engineer Trainee at Chowa Giken Corporation, Japan, through the Nippon AI Dojo Program, a program subsidized by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).

আমি বাংলাদেশের একজন স্নাতক পর্যায়ের শিক্ষার্থী এবং বর্তমানে ঢাকার ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে কম্পিউটার সায়েন্স অ্যান্ড ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং বিষয়ে স্নাতক ডিগ্রি অর্জন করছি। আমার প্রধান আগ্রহের ক্ষেত্র হলো কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা, মেশিন লার্নিং, ডিপ লার্নিং, কম্পিউটার ভিশন এবং জেনারেটিভ এআই। বর্তমানে আমি নিপ্পন এআই দোজো প্রোগ্রামের মাধ্যমে জাপানের চোয়া গিকেন কর্পোরেশনে এআই ইঞ্জিনিয়ার প্রশিক্ষণার্থী হিসেবে কাজ করছি। এই প্রোগ্রামটি জাপানের অর্থনীতি, বাণিজ্য ও শিল্প মন্ত্রণালয় (METI) কর্তৃক ভর্তুকিপ্রাপ্ত।
Q2: What motivated you to join GCI?

What motivated me to join GCI was the opportunity to strengthen my knowledge of AI and Machine Learning while learning from leading researchers and a global community of students. I was particularly interested in the program’s practical, research-oriented approach and the opportunity to work on challenging AI problems. As a Computer Science student from Bangladesh, I also saw GCI as a valuable opportunity to gain exposure to advanced AI research and an international academic environment. The program motivated me to push myself beyond my university coursework, collaborate with others, and apply my knowledge to real-world problems.

জিসিআই-তে যোগ দেওয়ার পেছনে আমার প্রধান অনুপ্রেরণা ছিল কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও মেশিন লার্নিং সম্পর্কে আমার জ্ঞান আরও শক্তিশালী করার পাশাপাশি অভিজ্ঞ গবেষক এবং বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন দেশের শিক্ষার্থীদের কাছ থেকে শেখার সুযোগ। বিশেষভাবে, প্রোগ্রামটির ব্যবহারিক ও গবেষণাভিত্তিক পদ্ধতি এবং চ্যালেঞ্জিং এআই সমস্যার ওপর কাজ করার সুযোগ আমাকে আকৃষ্ট করেছে। বাংলাদেশের একজন কম্পিউটার সায়েন্সের শিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে, উন্নত এআই গবেষণা এবং আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষাব্যবস্থার সঙ্গে পরিচিত হওয়ার জন্য আমি জিসিআইকে একটি মূল্যবান সুযোগ হিসেবে দেখেছি। এই প্রোগ্রামটি আমাকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যক্রমের বাইরেও নিজেকে চ্যালেঞ্জ করতে, অন্যদের সঙ্গে সহযোগিতা করতে এবং অর্জিত জ্ঞান বাস্তব জীবনের সমস্যায় প্রয়োগ করতে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে।
Q3: What skills, knowledge, or experiences did you gain through GCI?

Through GCI, I gained a deeper understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, particularly through practical and research-oriented learning. I strengthened my knowledge of deep learning, model development, data analysis, and AI methodologies, while gaining exposure to advanced AI research and real-world problem-solving. I also developed a better understanding of the business and marketing aspects of AI, including how technological solutions can address real-world needs, create value, and be presented effectively from a business perspective. The program encouraged me to learn independently, explore concepts beyond my university coursework, and apply my technical knowledge to challenging problems.

জিসিআই-এর মাধ্যমে আমি কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও মেশিন লার্নিং সম্পর্কে আরও গভীর জ্ঞান অর্জন করেছি, বিশেষ করে ব্যবহারিক ও গবেষণাভিত্তিক শিক্ষার মাধ্যমে। আমি ডিপ লার্নিং, মডেল ডেভেলপমেন্ট, ডেটা অ্যানালাইসিস এবং এআই-এর বিভিন্ন পদ্ধতি সম্পর্কে আমার জ্ঞান আরও শক্তিশালী করেছি এবং উন্নত এআই গবেষণা ও বাস্তব জীবনের সমস্যা সমাধানের সঙ্গে পরিচিত হয়েছি। পাশাপাশি, এআই-এর ব্যবসায়িক ও বিপণনগত দিক সম্পর্কেও আমার ধারণা উন্নত হয়েছে—বিশেষ করে কীভাবে প্রযুক্তিগত সমাধান বাস্তব জীবনের প্রয়োজন পূরণ করতে পারে, মূল্য তৈরি করতে পারে এবং ব্যবসায়িক দৃষ্টিকোণ থেকে কার্যকরভাবে উপস্থাপন করা যায়। এই প্রোগ্রামটি আমাকে স্বাধীনভাবে শেখার, বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যক্রমের বাইরে নতুন বিষয় অনুসন্ধান করার এবং চ্যালেঞ্জিং সমস্যায় আমার প্রযুক্তিগত জ্ঞান প্রয়োগ করার সুযোগ দিয়েছে।
Q4: How has GCI helped you in your academic or professional journey?

GCI has played an important role in strengthening both my academic knowledge and professional direction. It helped me deepen my understanding of AI and Machine Learning through practical, research-oriented learning while exposing me to advanced AI concepts beyond my university coursework. The program also helped me understand the business and marketing aspects of technology, giving me a broader perspective on how AI solutions can create practical value. Being selected as a GCI World 2026 Outstanding Student further motivated me to pursue AI professionally and seek opportunities to apply my skills in real-world environments.

Q5: What was the most memorable part of your GCI experience?

The most memorable part of my GCI experience was being selected as a GCI World 2026 Outstanding Student and securing 1st place in the GCI World Program Hackathon, which was held during the 14th week of the program at BRAC University. It was a rewarding experience because it allowed me to apply the knowledge I gained throughout the program to a challenging real-world problem. Being recognized among 18 students from more than 25,000 participants worldwide was especially meaningful to me as a student from Bangladesh. This achievement gave me greater confidence in my abilities and motivated me to continue pursuing AI and Machine Learning.

আমার জিসিআই অভিজ্ঞতার সবচেয়ে স্মরণীয় অংশ ছিল জিসিআই ওয়ার্ল্ড ২০২৬-এর অসাধারণ শিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হওয়া এবং জিসিআই ওয়ার্ল্ড প্রোগ্রাম হ্যাকাথনে প্রথম স্থান অর্জন করা, যা প্রোগ্রামের ১৪তম সপ্তাহে ব্র্যাক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। এই অভিজ্ঞতাটি আমার জন্য অত্যন্ত আনন্দদায়ক ও মূল্যবান ছিল, কারণ এর মাধ্যমে আমি প্রোগ্রামজুড়ে অর্জিত জ্ঞান একটি চ্যালেঞ্জিং বাস্তব সমস্যায় প্রয়োগ করার সুযোগ পেয়েছিলাম। বিশ্বব্যাপী ২৫,০০০-এরও বেশি অংশগ্রহণকারীর মধ্যে ১৮ জন শিক্ষার্থীর একজন হিসেবে স্বীকৃতি পাওয়া, বিশেষ করে বাংলাদেশের একজন শিক্ষার্থী হিসেবে, আমার জন্য অত্যন্ত গর্বের বিষয় ছিল। এই অর্জন আমার নিজের সক্ষমতার ওপর আত্মবিশ্বাস আরও বাড়িয়েছে এবং কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা ও মেশিন লার্নিং নিয়ে এগিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য আমাকে আরও অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে।
Q6: What would you say to someone considering applying to GCI?
(In English)
I would highly recommend applying to GCI if you are interested in AI, Machine Learning, and data science. The program provides an opportunity to learn beyond the regular university curriculum through practical and research-oriented coursework. My experience also helped me understand the business and marketing aspects of AI, which gave me a broader perspective on how technology can create real world value. My advice would be to stay consistent with the coursework, understand the fundamentals clearly, and actively apply what you learn in the assignments and competitions. Most importantly, do not give up when you face difficulties, make use of the available Q&A sessions and keep learning throughout the program.

আপনি যদি কৃত্রিম বুদ্ধিমত্তা, মেশিন লার্নিং এবং ডেটা সায়েন্সে আগ্রহী হন, তাহলে আমি অবশ্যই জিসিআই-তে আবেদন করার পরামর্শ দেব। এই প্রোগ্রামের মাধ্যমে নিয়মিত বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পাঠ্যক্রমের বাইরেও ব্যবহারিক ও গবেষণাভিত্তিক জ্ঞান অর্জনের সুযোগ রয়েছে। আমার অভিজ্ঞতায়, আমি এআই-এর ব্যবসায়িক ও বিপণনগত দিক সম্পর্কেও জানতে পেরেছি, যা প্রযুক্তি কীভাবে বাস্তব জীবনে মূল্য তৈরি করতে পারে সে সম্পর্কে আমার দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি আরও বিস্তৃত করেছে। আমার পরামর্শ হবে, নিয়মিতভাবে কোর্সের বিষয়গুলো অনুসরণ করুন, মৌলিক ধারণাগুলো ভালোভাবে বুঝুন এবং অ্যাসাইনমেন্ট ও প্রতিযোগিতায় শেখা বিষয়গুলো প্রয়োগ করুন। সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হলো, কঠিন সময়ে হাল ছেড়ে দেবেন না, প্রশ্ন থাকলে প্রশ্নোত্তর সেশনগুলোতে অংশ নিন এবং পুরো প্রোগ্রামজুড়ে শেখার চেষ্টা চালিয়ে যান।
